Ottoman Bed Base Assembly Instructions

For two-part ottoman bed bases

Two smooth U-clips secure the centre join. Four complete gas-lift assemblies support the two lids.

Important safety information

  • Use two people. Ottoman bases are heavy and can be difficult to control during assembly.
  • Control each lid before removing its transit strap. A lid may spring open as the strap is cut or removed.
  • One person must hold the lid firmly closed and keep faces, hands and body parts clear of the lifting path.

Before you begin

  • Clear a level working area and protect the floor covering.
  • Check the packaging and storage compartments for the feet, headboard fixings and connection fittings.
  • Do not discard the packaging until the bed is fully assembled and tested.

Assembly

  1. Place both base halves on the floor in their final orientation.
  2. One person must hold each lid firmly closed while the other carefully cuts or removes its fabric transit strap.
  3. Allow the lids to rise slowly and under control. They may remain open while the bed is being assembled; this is normal.
  4. Remove the feet, headboard fixings and connection fittings from the storage compartments. Fit all feet securely.
  5. Bring the two base halves side-by-side and bring their flat sides together at the centre. Align the front panels and outer edges, with no gap between the halves.
  6. Join the base halves at the centre using the supplied fittings. For U-clip models, press both smooth clips fully down over the meeting rails. If different connection fittings are supplied, align the fixing points and tighten them securely.
  7. Join the two lids at the marked fixing point. Pierce the fabric only at the mark, insert the supplied lid-linking bolt and tighten it until both lids move together.
  8. Using both hands, lower the lids slowly. Open and close the ottoman several times. Check that the lids move together and that all fittings remain secure.

If the lift feels stiff

Initial stiffness is normal. On some models, one end may need a firm, controlled push to engage correctly. Opening and closing the bed several times should help the gas-lift struts settle.

Final check

  • All feet are fully fitted and the base stands level.
  • The two base halves are securely joined.
  • The lid-linking bolt is fitted and tight.
  • The lids open and close evenly without catching.

Stop and recheck the assembly if the lids do not move together, the base halves separate or any fitting feels loose. Do not force the mechanism.
